Boyfriend of the Week: John Cusack

Say Anything is one of my all time favorite romantic movies, and it's all John Cusack's doing. Every time I watch it I melt and wonder why a great guy like Lloyd Dobler can't fall in love with me?! I know my affinity for the bad boys, but in the real world, as much as us girls love to think we can turn a bad boy from his bad ways... it's pretty much useless. So I much rather have a guy like Lloyd Dobler in my life. There's no training him. There's no trying to change him. He's already everything a good man should be! He's passionate, humble, romantic, kind, respectful, responsible, unafraid of commitment, optimistic, and honest. I've heard that John Cusack is actually a lot like Lloyd Dobler in real life, except a toned down version (maturity?).
Uhm. Where do I sign up?

I know Johnny isn't classically handsome. He's no Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt, that's for sure. He's a tad odd looking, but strangely appealing. I guess what I like, besides his personality and his regular guy next door good looks, is his voice. His voice is indescribable to me. It's a little raspy - but not so raspy at all, low - but not very low... I can't place it... but I know I love it.
I also love how he acts excited. He gets really energetic. He talks too fast. He paces. It's great. Then when things go wrong or his character is depressed, he slows down, becomes almost sluggish in everything he does. It's perfect. Exactly what I do. I feel that.

Going with the theme from High Fidelity, I'm going to give my top five John Cusack movies (where he has a lead role):
 1. Say Anything (of course), for all the reasons I listed above. It's a classic. Who can forget the scene when he stands outside the girl's house with a giant boombox, playing their song, after she break ups with him? No one. People who've never even seen the movie know that scene!

 2. High Fidelity: because I like how he's talking to the camera almost the entire movie. John has some really good flip out scenes, which anyone can relate to. Just, the over all reality of the movie, gets my attention. It was the movie which convinced me John Cusack LOVES to stand out in the pouring rain being depressed/angry (he does the same thing in a couple other movies, I think it should be his trademark).

3. Runaway Jury. Amazing. So many brilliant actors in this one. And I love the twist, or the reveal, at the end, when everything finally comes together and you find out why it all went down. Great stuff.

4. Being John Malkovich, even though it has to be one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen (top five weirdest movies, easily). That's all I can say about it. It's just totally unique. Just... out there... strange...

5. Hot Tub Time Machine. Seriously. I saw it on Friday and I really liked it. It had all this awesome(ly bad) 80's music, and the jokes were all dead on. I think it's just about equal to The Hangover for laughs, and the fact that it mostly takes place in the 80's makes it some kind of magic. And don't even get me started by the random appearance of Chevy Chase... too awesome. Great White Buffalo. I highly recommend you go see it. Really.

So there it is folks, boyfriend number... what is it now? 17? And the third guy named John, if you can believe it. I hope you approve, because it's so important that my friends like my boyfriend, even if he's not gunna stick around for long. 2. Really like John Cusak. I had a friend who kept saying to me: "Don't you think he's cute? Don't you think he's cute?"
I can't. He looks too much like my brother for me to think he's cute. (well, mostly in Being John Malkovich where he was sloppy and dishevled. But still. It's too oogy.)

  4. Good choice, I like him!

I agree about his voice, I love it. Did you see Anastasia? Animated film put out by... Fox I'm thinking.. about 10 years ago. It was really cute and John Cusack voices the lead male character in it. Sooo great!

  5. OMG, I FREAKING LOVE HIM. Are you on Twitter? You should follow him if you are. His handle is johncusack. Forewarning, though, he's often incoherent and has terrible spelling and grammar. He also gets mad when you point this out.

  10. "I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen." That is one of the best movies ever. Can't listen to IN YOUR EYES and not see him outside her window holding up that boombox. Awesome. However, I loved BETTER OFF DEAD and MUST LOVE DOGS and CON AIR and my brain just short circuited because I lost the name of the movie... the one where he proves ghosts aren't real and he sleeps in that freaky motel room. Freaking awesome movie. I hate when my brain does that. Whatever. I agree with you, though, love John Cusack.

  11. AHHHHH, John Cusack. I think he's hot and what's make him hot is not just his looks, but his humor and that voice. LOVE HIM. Would throw my current husband out on the curb for John Cusack. Is that wrong?
